As it seems, Kia Motors is moving fast in the Indian market with its limited but attractive products, including Seltos and Sonet. The Kia Sonet has made it to the list of the top 10 selling cars in October 2020 with 11,721 units sold last month, at the bottom of the list though.
The small SUV has garnered pretty much attention with its design, features, technology on offer. Which is very much evident with the new-entrant SUV making it to the list of the top 10 selling cars in October 2020, registering 25% month-on-month (MoM) growth. Kia Sonet, the third offering of the South Korean automaker in the Indian market was launched in September and clocked 9.266 unit sales in the very first month. The positive sentiment during festive season and different discounts and offers have played a key role behind the growth of the SUV.
Previously, Kia Seltos too made it to the top 10 selling cars list. However, in October, Kia’s first offering in India was positioned in the 12th spot, with 8,900 units recorded in October 2020, down 31% from 12,854 units sold in the same month a year ago.
Meanwhile, apart from Kia, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are the only two brands present with their offerings in the top 10 selling cars in October 2020. Maruti Suzuki Swift was the top selling car of the month with 24,589 units recorded, up 27% from 19,401 units sold in the ame month of 2019.
In the top 5 of the list, others models apart from the Maruti Suzuki Swift are Baleno, WagonR, Alto, Dzire – all of them from the largest car manufacturer of India, Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki Baleno registered 35% YoY growth last month with 21,971 units sold, as compared to 16,237 units recorded in October 2019. Maruti Suzuki WagonR too recorded 30% YoY growth with 18,703 units sold last month, as compared to 14,359 units registered in the same month a year ago.

A trend has been surfacing in the Indian auto market for the last several months, even before the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. The entry-level hatchback that used to find a large number of first-time buyers are now leaning toward the upper segments. Therefore, the Maruti Suzuki Alto, one of the best selling hatchbacks of all time in India and also once the first choice of the first-time buyers is now moving downward in the top 10 selling cars list.
The Maruti Alto has been positioned in the fourth spot in top 10 selling cars in October 2020 list with 17,850 units sold, as compared to 17,903 units recorded in the same month a year ago.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the bestselling sub-4 metre compact sedan with lion’s share in both the personal vehicle and fleet segments, has been positioned in fifth spot of the top 10 selling cars in October 2020 list with 17,675 units sold last month, recording a drop of 10%, as it sold 19,569 units in the same month a year ago.
Hyundai Creta was the biggest gainer in the top 10 selling cars in October 2020 list with a whopping 93% YoY growth, recording 14,023 units last month, as compared to 7,269 units sold in the ame month a year ago. The facelift version that was launched earlier this year, right after the Auto Expo 2020, and comes with a host of changes inside out, played a key role in the growth of the SUV.
Hyundai i10 Grand, Maruti Eeco and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza have been positioned in the seventh, eighth and ninth spots respectively in the top 10 selling cars in October 2020 list. The i10 Grand/Nios registered 14,003 units, up 42% from 9,873 units from a year ago month. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco on the other hand has recorded 33% YoY growth with 13,309 units sold last month, as compared to 10,011 units sold in October 2019. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza registered 18% YoY growth in October with 12,087 units sold, as compared to 10,227 units sold in October 2019.
