New Mahindra Thar helped M&M to post 26% YoY growth in November 2020 with 17,971 units dispatched.
The all-new Mahindra Thar SUV dispatched 2,569 units to the dealers in the very first month after launch. With this, the homegrown auto manufacturer has registered 4,747% growth in November 2020, as compared to 53 units dispatched in the same month a year ago.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has received more than 20,000 bookings for the new Mahindra Thar in November. Witnessing customer response for the off-roader, the automaker has stopped taking bookings for the AX Std and AX variants till May 2021.
Currently, Mahindra Thar comes with a waiting period of more than 7 months. The automaker is working on to ramp up production of the SUV in a bid to reduce the waiting period. From, January 2021, the automaker aims to produce 3,000 units of new Mahindra Thar every month.
So far, the new Mahindra Thar helped the automaker to post 26% YoY growth in November 2020 with 17,971 units dispatched, as compared to the same month a year ago, when it recorded 14,238 units. Interestingly, Mahindra Thar received the 4-star Global NCAP rating just a few weeks ago, becoming one of the latest entrants in the safest cars in India list.

Among other models, Mahindra Boleo is still the bestselling passenger vehicle from the brand. It sold 6,055 units last month, up 18% from 5,127 units recorded in November 2019. However, Mahindra Boleo’s MoM sales dropped 21% last month, as compared to 7,624 units registered in October 2020.
Mahindra XUV300 is the only other car apart from new Mahindra Thar and Scorpio to post YoY growth last month. The SUV sold 4,458 units in November 2020, up 100% as compared to 2,224 units sold in the same month a year ago. Also, the SUV posted 9% MoM decline compared to October 2020, when it sold 4,882 units. M&M had reduced the prices of the XUV300 SUV by Rs 72,000 in August 2020, which led to a significant increase in sales volume.

The Mahindra Scorpio sold 3,725 last month, down 4% from the same month a year ago when it registered 3,878 units. Another popular Mahindra car XUV500 sold 892 units in November 2020, down 9% from 981 units sold in the same month a year ago.
Interestingly, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), passenger cars and SUV segment has registered 4.17% growth in retail sales in November 2020, as compared to November 2019.
